Well, late
getting this done, ... pretty normal for me since I retired from
Boeing 3 years ago. So much to do, so little time. Retirement has
not provided any of the extra time that I thought it would.
Slightly over 30 years with the Boeing company in all kinds of
roles, mostly having to do with computing support in the IT
organization.... from internal support on Engineering Workstations
to outside consulting, ending with computer graphics software
Product Manager.
I'm
married to a wonderful Boeing person that I met while working
there... one of the best Boeing benefits! Married in 1985 and now
with two fine boys, one graduated from the University of Puget Sound
and living in Minneapolis currently, the other a Junior at the
University of Puget Sound studying English and Theatre. (He spent
his own money to go to London to study Shakespeare for a month this
past summer; a very creative kid!)
Some of my
time is spent managing and upgrading our small collection of rental
properties - single family homes that were supposed to provide a
bunch of retirement money since they are all paid for, but this
summer, seems like Murphy's law was in effect... whatever could go
wrong did! The plumber said, "oh, this house is too young to have
anything go wrong with the cast iron drain lines". Boy was he
wrong, as digging up the concrete in the finished basement proved.
Oh, well, consider it a new 'learning experience'.
Much of my
time is spent fooling around with airplanes that I own or share with
others. Right now my favorite project is a Cessna 185 Skywagon on
floats that I've enjoyed flying from the Renton airport where it's
based to our summer home on south Puget Sound. 35 minutes of fun
flying will get us there, while otherwise it's likely a 2 hour
drive.
If any of
you get the Pacific Northwest, look me up... maybe the weather will
be good enough to share an airplane ride around Puget Sound with
you!
